Brentford ended Exeter's unbeaten home record with an impressive 4-2 victory at St James' Park. The Bees went in front with their first effort at goal after four minutes. Kevin O'Connor's corner-kick was met by Leon Legge and his header went through Exeter goalkeeper Paul Jones and into the net. Gary Alexander had a goal disallowed as Exeter struggled to get going, but Jamie Cureton brought them level after 28 minutes when he latched onto Ryan Harley's pass and finished with style. Cureton spurned a similar chance moments later when he blasted high over the bar and it was costly as Brentford hit the Grecians with two quick goals. Alexander got the first when he bundled the ball home from close range after 62 minutes and Sam Wood added a third two minutes later when he beat the hesitant Jones to the ball and poked it under the out of sorts Exeter goalkeeper. More shocking defending from Exeter led to the fourth goal as the Grecians failed to clear their lines and Wood rolled the ball into the corner for his second goal from 15 yards. Cureton headed in Richard Logan's cross for Exeter to make it 4-2, while O'Connor and Myles Weston both missed late penalties for the Bees, which were saved by Jones.
