The Nationwide Conference club was among nearly 200 Westcountry
businesses attending the hugely-successful two-day business-to-business
forum, held at the Westpoint Arena, near Exeter, and was in competition
with rivals Plymouth Argyle FC, which also exhibited.
The best small stand award was presented on behalf of event organisers
TJW Exhibitions Ltd, of Taunton, by England and Somerset cricketer Andy
Caddick.
Exeter City was judged to have won the award not just for the quality of
the its exhibition stand, but also for the welcome visitors received,
the literature it handed out, and for having mascot Alex the Greek
roaming the venue.
Business South West was chosen by Exeter City to relaunch the club's
flexible Grecian 10 season ticket and to show the region's business
community its range of marketing opportunities.
The Grecian 10 is a discounted book of 10 tickets which can be used in
any permutation for home league matches: "The flexible ticket for the
flexible fan."
Exeter City vice-chairman Julian Tagg said: "We are more than delighted
with the new contacts we have made at the exhibition.
"With our playing team currently in third position and our commercial
team winning the 'Best Small Stand Award', we now have to build upon the
good start we have made to the season both on and off the field."
The club is now going to follow up the business leads generated by the
event with some targeted marketing.
This year's Business South West attracted nearly 3,500 visitors over the
two days, most of whom were leading decision-makers within their
organisations.
Nina Hurst-Jones, exhibitions director for TJW Exhibitions Ltd, said:
"Business South West is now the largest business-to-business event of
its kind in the UK and one of the longest-running, and many of our
exhibitors come back year after year.
"Our successful list of events already includes Manchester, Exeter, and
Scotland, and I am delighted that in March, 2006, we are also adding a
new event, Business South, which is being hosted by Southampton FC at
their Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium.
"The secret of our success is that we bring together those people from
businesses which have something to sell with those people from
businesses who are looking to buy.
"The result is that they do serious amounts of business - something
around the £2 million mark on average has been generated by the
portfolio of b2b shows this year.
"But at the same time we pack in activities which provide fun
entertainments for visitors and a wealth of learning opportunities via
our free series of seminars, lectures, and workshops which are all
presented by experts in their fields."
Business South West was supported by Business Link, the South West
Manufacturing Advisory Service (SWMAS), the Crisp Group, Honda (UK),
Pyramid Presentation Solutions, Atradius, and Wired West, and was held
in association with media partners the Express and Echo and its sister
publications the Western Morning News and Devon Today, as well as in
partnership with Devon Life, and New Business magazine.
