The pair have both spent spells out on loan this term and have made just one start between them all season.
Boss Paul Tisdale said: "I'm disappointed that Ben will be leaving us because he's been such a big part of the club for the last three-and-a-half years.
"He's learned the game and although he hasn't played as many games as we or he would have expected he's become a professional footballer.
"James came in two years ago full of energy and exuberance. He was a player we wanted to take a chance on and it hasn't quite worked for him.
"We hope he has learned from the very good experience he's had with us."
