Steven Gillespie scored twice as rampant Colchester put nine-man Exeter to the sword in a 5-1 win.

Exeter went ahead just before the midway point in the first half through Daniel Nardiello, who finished at the far post after John O'Flynn had helped on Steve Tully's throw.

But Gillespie flicked in Matt Heath's powerful header just after the half hour to equalise for Colchester.

Tully was sent off nine minutes before the break for fouling Ashley Vincent and denying a goalscoring opportunity, before Us goalkeeper Ben Williams tipped O'Flynn's header onto the post.

Exeter were reduced to nine men with 20 minutes left when Scott Golbourne was dismissed for fouling Vincent in the area and David Mooney converted the resulting penalty.

Vincent pounced on Lloyd James' pass to make it 3-1 and barely a minute later, Gillespie converted from Andy Bond's pass for 4-1.

Bond struck a fifth from close range with four minutes to go after Mooney had hit a post to wrap up the Us` big win.
