Stalemate at St James

Exeter and Scunthorpe did little to help move themselves away from the League One relegation zone following a dour goalless draw at St James Park.

The match marked Exeter manager Paul Tisdale's 2,000th day in charge of the Grecians, but they could not celebrate it with a win on a day those in attendance would probably be better served Christmas shopping.

The first half was shaded by Exeter, who had the best two chances of the half. Chris Hackett twice cut in from the right flank, but on each occasion he was denied by Scunthorpe's on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Scunthorpe's best effort came from Andy Barcham, but he was denied by Exeter's Polish goalkeeper Artur Krysiak.

The Iron improved after the break and came close to winning the points when Krysiak saved Bobby Grant's long-range effort and the Exeter goalkeeper again came to his side's rescue to deny Shane Duffy with a brilliant fingertip save.

Exeter created nothing of note until the final minute when Jake Taylor rattled the crossbar from 12 yards.
