Injury-hit Halifax Town got back to winning ways with a deserved win over Exeter.

Chris Wilder's eighth placed side went into this Conference clash against the side one place below them in the table minus seven first team regulars.

But after an indifferent first half, patched up Halifax stepped up the pace in the second period to end a recent dismal run.

The home side dominated the early exchanges but for all their possession could not convert their chances with Adam Quinn and Ryan Sugden going close.

But it was City who had the best chance when Sean Devine's cross-shot was tipped on to the inside of the post by Ian Dunbavin and hacked clear by skipper Denny Ingram.

The second half got of to an explosive start with two goals in a minute bringing the game to life.

First City winger Les Afful gave away possession deep into the Town half. Dean Howell broke upfield and skipped around Wayne O'Sullivan before threading a perfect pass to Darren Mansaram who took it in his stride and drilled a low shot past Martin Rice.

But the visitors hit back straight from the kick off as Henry McStay conceded a needless corner which was only half cleared and skipper Christopher Todd produced a great overhead kick to level.

But Halfax regrouped and got their reward as Matt Doughty's run and pass found Sugden who turned Todd. As the ball broke loose Kwame Ampade brought him down and Howell stepped up to stroke home the spot kick.

Howell and Steve Flack were both booked by referee Ian Nolan but the game was played in a good spirit with the home side deserving the win.
